Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter, Kimberly Kay; parents; a brother Paul who died in infancy; and two sisters: Golda Sell and Edith Jenssen.

Evelyn was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning all the fruits and vegetables they raised on the farm.
She loved living on the farm, but after Tom passed away in 1978, she moved into Scotland and began working as a dietary aide at the Good Samaritan Center.
Farming was his way of life, spending many hours in his fields and caring for his livestock.
He enjoyed working on cars and found a love in restoring classic cars.
The time he spent with his grandchildren was precious and limitless. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Anna Merkwan and his brother, Edward. Melichar, age 95, of Tabor, SD died Friday, March 4, 2011 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Tabor, with military graveside rites by the Kortan-Hatwan American Legion Post #183. He served a 4-year enlistment aboard the USS Whitney prior to WWII.
Funeral services will be , Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Tabor, with Msgr. Visitations will begin at PM, Thursday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Tabor, with a Scripture service at PM. He then re-enlisted in 1941 serving in WWII as First Class Metalsmith aboard the USS Kaskaskia and then later being promoted to Chief Metalsmith aboard the USS Ajax.
After her retirement, she began making patchwork quilts.
